Hestasport Cottages
With magnificent views overlooking the vast plains and distant mountains of the Skagafjörður valley, our seven charming timber cottages are the ideal place to spend your days off all year round. Experience the serenity of Northern Iceland and fill your days with the endless possibilities for adventure that Skagafjörður has to offer.
The cottages range in size from studio-style bungalows (2-4 people) to spacious multi-room retreats. They are nestled together up on the hill only a short walking distance from the centre of Varmahlíð. From the hot tub at the centre of the well-maintained cottage site, you can enjoy the golden light of the midnight sun or watch the northern lights.
In town, you will find all the services you need: tourist information, grocery shop, restaurant, petrol station, swimming pool, and more.

2 person cottages
Our four studio-style 2-person cottages range from 30 to 36 m² in size. Their warm log house design invites you to relax and enjoy and will make you feel at home instantly. Our natural hot tub is only a few meters away at the centre of the cottage site and at your disposal around the clock.

The bedrooms feature comfortable bed, duvets and pillows. Bed linens are provided and included.

Guests have access to a shared natural hot tub, located by the cottages.
Fully equipped kitchens
The kitchens in the cottages are fully-equipped with a stove, oven, utensils and kitchen ware.
Private bathrooms
All cottages have a private bathroom with a shower. Towels and handsoaps are provided.
Important information
Check-in
Check-in is at Hestasport reception, from 15:00 h (3:00 pm). In case you arrive late, we will leave an envelope with your key and directions to your cottage in a wooden box next to our office door.
House Rules
Please be considerate of your neighbours and the environment. Smoking is not allowed in any of the Hestasport Cottages. Please respect this rule.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel up to 48 hours before the arranged arrival date, no fee will be charged. If cancelled later the first two nights will be charged. In case of no-show, the total price will be charged.
In case weather and road conditions do not permit you to travel to Varmahlíð on the arranged date, please give us a call and we’ll discuss our mutual options.

Hestasport Cottages are located near Varmahlíð in North Iceland. There is a varied range of activities and beautiful landscapes in the surroundings of Hestasport Cottages.
How to get to there?
Hestasport Cottages are located in Varmahlíð, which is conveniently located by the ring road, road number 1. If you are travelling from Reykjavík, it will take you around 3 and a half hour to drive to Hestasport Cottages. If you are driving from Akureyri it will only take you around an hour on the ring road.
The area
Hestasport Cottages are in Skagafjörður, a fjord that is often referred to as the home of the Icelandic horse. In Skagafjörður you can enjoy both the rich cultural life and lifestyle. The district is an ideal place to enjoy beautiful Icelandic nature, horsemanship and activities for the whole family. You will also find interesting historical sites, museums and exhibits.

Activities
Hestasport offers a variety of riding tours, both single day tours and multi-day tours. We can also help you plan and book a range of activities that are available in the area. Whitewater rafting down glacial rivers, helicopter skiing on Tröllaskagi mountain range, sailing to the island Drangey, relax in a natural hot spring is just a few activities that the area has to offer.
Restaurants
The restaurant at Hotel Varmahlíð is located one kilometre from Hestasport Cottages and offers a pleasant atmosphere for breakfast or dinner. The restaurant is open daily from 20.May – 15.september.
The petrol station in Varmahlíð store also has a canteen with grab-and-go foods.
Shopping facilities
Feel like taking a piece of Icelandic culture home with you? The handcraft gallery in the village offers a huge range of traditional Icelandic sweaters, gloves, hats and other unique clothing and decoration items.
Skiing
Hestasport Cottages are located near five excellent skiing areas in Tröllaskagi. It takes from 40 minutes to 2 hours to drive to the areas.
